How do I use the oil?
Brush your hair to remove knots and tangles. Section your hair for easier application. Apply the oil throughout the sectioned hair. Massage the area with your fingers in a circular motion to stimulate blood flow. Repeat the entire process in a consistent pattern until you cover your entire scalp. Once your roots are covered, apply some oil through the length of your hair. Massage your scalp for 5-10 minutes and comb your hair to spread the oil evenly. Braid your hair or tie it in a bun. Let the oil penetrate your scalp for a couple of hours (minimum 1 hour) or overnight. After the waiting period, wash the oil off with your shampoo and conditioner.
What are the main benefits of the oil?
MAYU oil moisturizes, strengthens and promotes overall hair health. If used consistently, our oil can promote hair growth, ease an itchy scalp, prevent breakage and reduce hair loss. How often should I use it?
We recommend oiling your hair at least once a week or every time you plan to wash your hair. If you have dandruff, we recommend applying the oil twice a week to ease your itchy scalp. For best results, use the oil consistently for over 3 months.
How long does the oil last?
The oil can last anywhere between 4-6 months. It depends on how much oil you apply and at what frequency you apply it.
Is it safe for coloured hair?
Our product contains pure Amla oil, which can naturally darken hair. We recommend you speak to your colourist before purchasing our oil to ensure it does not have an effect on your toner or dye.
What ingredients do you use?
Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Amla Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Black Cumin Oil, and Lavender Oil (>2%).
Are your products organic?
All of our ingredients are organic.
Are your products tested on animals?
We do not incorporate animal testing into our development phase or at the production level. We will never test on animals and we are cruelty-free. Our product is suitable for vegans.
Is the oil safe to heat before application?
We do not recommend heating our oil for several reasons. First, we want to protect you in case of a fire. Second, all the oils have different smoke points – we do not want to destroy their beneficial properties. Third, if the oil is too hot, it may burn your scalp.
Can I apply the oil to my face (eyebrows and lashes)?
No. The product is solely intended for hair needs.
Do I need to patch test?
Patch testing is essential. It is to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Apply a small amount of the oil on your skin and wait for 48 hours. After the 48 hours, if you have any signs of redness, itchiness or swelling, please see a doctor.
Is your oil safe to use during pregnancy?
We recommend that you speak with your primary care physician for this matter.
Where is your product manufactured?
The product is manufactured in Montreal, Canada.
What hair types is your product meant for?
MAYU hair oil is suitable for all hair types.
Does your product contain any chemicals?
MAYU oil is chemical free. Our product is all natural.
What is the shelf life of your product?
Once the product is opened, the shelf life is 12 months. We recommend placing the bottle in a dry and dark location.
Why did my product arrive frozen?
Due to cold weather, our product may freeze during transport. Since we do not use any fillers or chemicals, it is normal for our oil to solidify in cold environments. Please let the oil defrost at room temperature for a couple of hours. Shake the bottle vigorously before use.
Coconut oil solidifies at about 7°C (45° F), which is the temperature of most shipping trucks (or cooler) during the colder seasons. Putting the bottle near a warm air source will heat it above the temperature needed to liquefy it. This change from liquid to solid and back again does not affect the quality of the oil in any way. Our oil is 100% natural and we do not use any fillers or chemicals. For this reason, it is completely normal for it to solidify during travel.
What is the meaning behind MAYU?
The brand is named after our mother, Mayuri. She has been educating us on hair-oiling for as long as we can remember and she is the reason why we have such healthy hair. We hope to honor our mother by giving others access to her oil.

Can I cancel my order?
No. All sales are final.

We accept all major credit/debit cards.
What is your return policy?
For safety reasons, we cannot accept returns. All sales are final. However, if you are unsatisfied with your purchase due to a defect, please contact us.
Where is my order?
You will receive an email confirmation once your order is placed. As soon as your order is dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking number.
Do you ship internationally?
At the moment, we only ship within Canada and the United States. We are working hard to make our product available internationally.
